The Premier League Is Corrupt
Like every other Everton fan I woke up this morning thinking I wouldn't have to think about the Blues for a week or so due to the International break, but that was shattered at about midday when I was told by a colleague that I should get on Sky Sports News. I wish I hadn't. Everton have been docked an unprecedented 10 points for a single breach of the Premier Leagues financial fair play, Profit and Sustainability rules. What a load of rubbish! We have worked with the Premier League diligently over the last 3 or 4 years to make sure we have complied with every regulation under the sun it seems and have been fully transparent and open with them about our accounts. We've not tried to be sneaky with anything and do deals behind closed doors or under the table like certain other clubs have and yet we are the ones the Premier League decides to drop into the volcano as sacrifice.
I'm not saying Everton aren't guilty, they are. We have clearly missed the mark with how the club has been run in recent years but this punishment is totally out of order with the crime. Nobody in the footballing world thought we would be getting such a hefty deduction, we were bracing ourselves for one, but this is excessive. Everton are right to fight and appeal it.
The Premier League knows full well it would create an earthquake if it went straight after the other two clubs who have been in the news recently for their far more blatant financial improprieties that date back far beyond those that Everton Football Club has been disproportionately punished for. I will not get too far into the whataboutery that has been all over social media but the fact should not be ignored that Manchester City have been accused of 115 breaches of the very same rules and have yet to even be pointed in the direction of a court room or had the fainted hint of prosecution aimed at them. The same goes for Chelsea who have recently come out and admitted that certain aspects of the financial dealings under the now disgraced Roman Abramovich that date back some 12 years.
It's utter nonsense to claim that Everton have made huge losses alone over the last few years, we have also counterbalanced that with revenue and it is in fact that their actual losses over the period is somewhere around the 20 million mark. 20 million pounds over the 105 million figure we were told to adhere to back before there was a worldwide pandemic or the war in Ukraine which has since seen us stripped of a third of our advertising revenue and sponsorships.
Everton have been punished by the very organisation that we sought help and advise from when we wanted to begin building a new stadium just as the COVID pandemic hit, a project that would undoubtedly benefit the Premier League's brand as well, in the long run and would make Everton a more profitable and sustainable outfit in years to come due to the increased crowd and hospitality revenue, not to mention other income streams that could come from such a large stadium.
So now Everton have been deducted the points and find themselves in 19th place in the league. Fine, we've been here before, we can survive this. The other teams around us are utterly hopeless this season and with Everton playing how they are at the moment, we will easily climb out of that mess and end strongly and I believe the players can do that this year, we are far more equipped for survival that we have been in the previous two campaigns. It is time for Everton to go back to war with the rest of the league and with the league organisers themselves as well.
Lets just see what kind of atmosphere greets Manchester United on the 26th November, let them not forget they were one of the "BIG SIX" traitors who attempted to form their own league and have their own slice of the pie and take from everybody else's plate at the same time. Let us remind the Premier League of our stance at their side when they were begging the other 14 teams to join them in condemnation of the abhorrent six who attempted to steal the game for their own greed. Let us show the Premier League what true scorn looks like, banners, flags and one voice made of 39000 people saying Corruption".
We have been a convenient ally to the Premier League when it suited them but now that their own head is on the block after the Government wanted them to show they themselves can be sustainable and can guarantee rules are being followed, they have chosen the supposed easy option of making an example of one of their less favourite subjects. Nevermind the fact that we are the oldest, nevermind that we are one of the most respected, even amongst our own. We may be frail and nowhere near our former glory but we can still fight.
